LETTER: ‘Virtual reality’ at Park Rapids High School – Park Rapids Enterprise

December 22, 2021 by No Comments

I am a former Park Rapids band director. My wife and I attended “A Magical Medora Christmas” performance at the high school on Dec. 16. What a musical treat to be at such a wonderful, live, in person, professional performance.

But, that is not the reason for this letter. After the performance, I was talking with one of my former band students from the late 1990s. So, we talked about the good, old days and decided to look for the trophies in the trophy cases and reminisce about the glory days. Much to my dismay, there were no trophies or photos in the cases from the fine arts, including band, choir, etc. from the late 1990s or early 2000s.

I found out, aftering calling the current band director, that the trophies had been purged of physical memories of the fine arts. He indicated that they had been taken to make a digital record and not returned to the trophy case.

That is fine for some, but what about former alumni from out of town who may want to revisit the past glories of their high school fine arts accomplishments to show their families?

So, if you are an older alumni and wish to revisit those accomplishment, get the computer out, maybe host a Zoom meeting with your old classmates, but do not look in the high school trophy case for the real thing.
